While I was living in Portland, Oregon I was inspired to write a novel about a teenager working at a mob-owned pizza shop. Sort of like Sopranos set in the John Hughes universe.
I called the story “Armed & Delicious.”
But after a year of trying to sell it to publishers who were only interested in books about teenage vampires, I was left agent-less, pizza-less and alone.
On the verge of tossing my manuscript in the ol’ digital trash basket, I was inspired by my friend Jeremy Okai Davis, who would later paint the cover shown above, to just put the damn thing out myself ... indie-renegade-style.
Funny thing, but putting out a professionally edited and designed novel is not cheap. Enter Kickstarter.
A successful Kickstarter campaign is typically led by an engaging video. So I gathered up some very talented friends, made a big damn fool of myself and hoped that folks would help me get this book made.
It worked.
